Job Description
Does driving business value with data get you up in the morning?
This role might be the one for you. We’re looking for a Manager, Analytics Engineering to be part of our Strategy & Analytics team here at Jobber.
Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers, while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!
Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50™, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500™ lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.
The team:
Strategy & Analytics is a centralized team within Jobber that works with functions across the business, while helping leadership and our stakeholders make informed decisions. Our mission is to democratize data access and transparency, provide insights and decision support; and advise and accelerate the business. Other teams within Strategy & Analytics include Strategy & Operations, Customer Analytics, Product Analytics, and Data Science.
The role:
Reporting to the SVP of Strategy & Analytics, we are seeking an experienced leader to develop our Analytics Engineering function, helping complete the transition from what was originally a Business Intelligence team. This role is pivotal in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, and is the bridge between the back end Data Platform teams and the front end Analytics teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a deep understanding of business intelligence, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
The Manager, Analytics Engineering will:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of analytics engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data architectures and pipelines to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales, to understand their data requirements and deliver relevant tables and insights.
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and management of analytics tools and platforms, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization.
- Create and manage dashboards, reports, and data visualizations alongside your team, to provide clear and actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels.
- Establish and enforce best practices & quality for data management, including data governance, quality assurance, and security.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data analytics and engineering, and drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
To be successful, you should have:
- Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven hands on experience in data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and deliver results on time (Project Management Experience)
- The ability to be agile in an agile environment. You’ll be leading and teaching your team to adapt to change, and reading the overall company strategy and context to set the direction for the team.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills. This team enables departments all across the business to be successful, so your role will ensure that we’re solving the most impactful problems and opportunities at all times. Communicating the strategy and plan, managing stakeholder expectations, and having the ability to influence change is essential.
- Ability to recruit, develop, motivate and mentor a team of data engineers, data scientists, and data analyst professionals. Objectively measure performance, velocity, and impact.
Nice to have:
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is highly desirable.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
All interviews are currently being conducted virtually—via phone or video.
