What You’ll Do
At Blackpoint, we’ve experienced a strong period of growth as a direct result of increased efficiency and productivity. To continue this trajectory, we’re searching for a highly qualified Sales Tax Analyst to join our finance team responsible for the sales tax process.
Responsibilities include:
Software Platform Administration (8%)
Maintain sales tax automation platform – Avalara, including automated registration
Understand billing transaction workflow between accounting ERP (Netsuite) and billing platform (Stripe)
Understand sales tax exemption workflow
Identify processing errors and follow up with platform support staff for resolution
Process sales tax returns
Own system administration responsibilities (user ID, access rights, deprovisioning)
Sales Tax Registration (10%)
Maintain active state sales tax nexus registration
Follow up with sales tax authorities on any registration issues
Customer Outreach (30%)
Manage sales tax certification process as part of the customer onboarding process
Proactively contacting historical customers and newly onboarded customers to obtain sales tax exemption certificates
Manage certain customer outreach KPI metrics - % of customers with sales tax exemption certificates on file with the Company
Resolving any customer disputes related to sales tax charge issues and performing refunds where necessary
Order Management Data Validation (30%)
Review all sales order transactions in each state and by customer and within accounting ERP (Netsuite) and billing platforms (Stripe)
Understand sales tax nexus thresholds in each state
Validate sales order transactions are processed completely and accurately
Proactively reach out to sales tax platform support team to resolve sales order transaction processing issues
Process customer refunds
Sales Tax Returns Processing (10%)
Prepare sales tax returns using sales tax platform
Review tax returns for accuracy and completeness
Review cash bank statements to ensure payment of sales tax returns
Work with third-party provider on any external sales tax returns processing
Engagement with Sales Tax Authorities (2%)
Review all communications from tax authorities
Respond to all inquiries from tax authorities
Coordinate all sales tax audits
Reporting (10%)
Maintain accuracy of the order to cash process
Complete workpaper documentation for monthly close process
Ensure each customer is billed accurately and invoices collected timely
Coordinate reporting of SaaS financial metrics (bookings, MRR, ARR, etc.) and discuss with management monthly
Contribute to monthly financial close process including performing reconciliations and preparing schedules
Manage ASC606 revenue recognition policies and reconciliations
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Two to three years of accounting or finance experience
Ability to independently resolve complex problems where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of several factors
Proven history of being able to deal with large and complex data sets taken from several systems
Ability to be a business partner that provides critical recommendations
