The Senior Legal Staff Writer will be part of our team responsible for monitoring court dockets and publishing breaking news. For the right candidate, this position could be available on a part-time basis. We are looking for a team member who is passionate about U.S. bankruptcy law and writing quickly, clearly and accurately for a highly sophisticated audience.

This role is ideal for a candidate that is excited by working as part of a preeminent team of legal analysts covering high stakes complex chapter 11 cases and litigation without the demands of big law on hours and perpetual availability. What can you expect from us? Free weekends, consistent start and end times, exposure to the largest and most topical cases in the industry and opportunities to take on additional projects that interest you.

Broadly, this role works closely with our dedicated team of legal analysts to understand the key concepts, insights, cases and information relevant to Reorg’s subscribers, which include hedge funds, restructuring advisors and BigLaw firms.

Day to day, the Senior Legal Staff Writer will work as the senior member of a two-person “speed” team monitoring court filings in chapter 11 cases and complex litigations. The team will evaluate each filing for significant new developments and relevance to Reorg’s coverage aims and convey a recommended action with the broader legal coverage team with whom the speed team will communicate closely.

As part of this gatekeeping role, the speed team will use our workflow tools to ensure the new filings are handled appropriately. The speed team members will be responsible for drafting and publishing breaking news developments, as necessary. For non-breaking filings, the team will assess whether the legal coverage team should incorporate the filing into regular case coverage or if no coverage of the pleading is warranted. The Senior Legal Staff Writer will also draft short stories and updates.

A successful Senior Legal Staff Writer has a comprehensive knowledge of bankruptcy law and practice and is a decisive, organized, self-starter with excellent judgment that can make substantive coverage decisions independently. They will also be able to rapidly interpret legal filings, particularly in corporate bankruptcy and litigation, and draft precise, insightful coverage with speed. They must also be organized and able to facilitate workflow management.

A legal degree is required for the Senior Legal Staff Writer role, and an understanding of and interest in bankruptcy and complex litigation matters and related pleadings is a must.
